Sportster Air Cleaner Why Is There Gas In My 2001 883 Sportster Air Filter?

Why is there gas in my 2001 883 Sportster air filter? - sportster air cleaner

I bought a 2001 883 Sportster and very good for a week. Then I realized I was beginning to "lose" a heavy burden, like a steep hill. The problem was getting worse. I have the spark, but to no avail. I pulled the air filter is a K & N, and was full of gas! I cleaned the air filter, but only filled with gas again in a few miles. I ran the bike a few miles without air filter and it works great! Is this just an adjustment problem or something else?
